Name

[edit]

There was a discussion of the name in the introduction which gave an entirely incorrect impression that "belladonna" was a mistaken misspelling of the scientific name "bella-donna". However the name belladonna predates Linnaeus' original work by 100 years and his Species Plantarum by 120 years. Therefore it is impossible for "belladonna" without the space, to be an incorrect rendering of the scientific name. Obviously "belladonna" is the English common name for Atropa bella-donna, which continues to be used in spite of Linnaeus appropriating it as a two word name.
